    Default official announcement

I have given up on Obama. you won't have any posts of me anymore defending this administration. my country is turning into a steaming pile of shit and theres nothing I can do about it.

my faith in unions is gone. you don't work with them for 4 months? you get a re-entry free of 580$, corrupt pieces of shit. I just can't trust anyone anymore. you get newsletters from freepress about petitions for big corporation mergers you sign up for them then find out later the ones getting the petitions together are just as corrupt. nobody is about doing the right thing anymore, no matter it be the left or the right.

    I just want to move.

I wish. His union ass is too tied to hand outs to ever leave. I have to deal with him until one of us dies. I hope it's him by my hands. That faggot.

tarrat, from an economic perspective labor is just another input cost. unions artificially keep that cost elevated, causing dislocations. see auto companies, this closed factory bc of unions, and the thousands of failing local & state governments for the eventual outcome of said dislocations.

    more:
Plundering California-Public-sector unions have brought the state to its knees.

    but some good news:

Ya know, I'm hearing this more and more each day.

It's a little too late for turning on him now Bazh, you guys elected him, and now it is ALL of our problems.

Maybe next time you won't blindly follow and believe everything the MSM has to say, and will actually THINK FOR YOURSELF before you go and support such a radical candidate for President.

At least you came to your senses sooner than others though, for some (MNA, , Cit1 etc...) it will never happen. They are too far into the MSM trap that they will never see what is really going on.

And than there are people like Josez who flew off the deep-end and believe in one conspiracy theory after the other.

    Welcome to the RIGHT side

I dont buy the whole humanity thing, I dont believe in my species. I dont believe in my country. I dont believe in religion. I dont believe in government. I dont believe in big business. I think its a game, a racket, a con. I enjoy not caring because it gives me a detachment, a separation. I see alot of people into politics who believe that 'Oh there's hope, only if we do this'. I dont believe that either.

the only thing good about unions is assured quality of work other than that they cripple the economy and force contractors (especially the state on public works projects) to spend double on labor rates than what they should be

ryph, i understand that. but i'm always terribly amused by rabid anti-union screeching because it's just so horribly ignorant. people seem to think that the established norms of today have been around from the beginning, and worse, that unions have always been corrupt groups of organized, legitimized crime keeping the poor capitalists under their oppressive, demanding thumbs. it's just not true. it's a fundamental misunderstanding of history.

you know how we'd gone back and forth over schooling in the past? :P this is a case where schooling might be important -- it's easy to ignore history, or willfully misinterpret history, when you're not forced to look at it in an academic setting. that's not directed at you -- but there are others ITT who should read it and take it to heart.

let none of us be so quick to categorically dismiss unions / unionized labor without giving a nod to their roots, lest we look very fucking dumb.

things change, its time for unions to go the way of the dinosaur. we dont have children slaving 12hrs a day for pennies. there is NO reason to artificially keep wages higher for people if somebody else is willing to do the job for cheaper. that is my only gripe with them, their roots aside.

everybody was bitching last summer when gas was hitting $4/gal due to 'oil manipulation' via trading. im bitching about wage manipulation.

I don't read or watch any MSM as a source of news-gathering. Of the news I do pursue, I'd estimate that less than 20% has its origins in the MSM. So explain to me how you arrived at the conclusion that I'm a slave to the "MSM trap." Where and how do you obtain your news, and how do your sources make your position any more objective than my own?

I largely agree with this. I just think that without the early establishment of those norms, what Marx wrote about the capitalist-laborer relationship would have been a bit closer to the mark. Perhaps there is no utility for unionized labor anymore.

I find it funny that a lot of disagreement, political or economical or otherwise, seems to boil down to a difference in faith in the nature of humanity. It's just strange that what appears to be so complex can be boiled down to something so elemental.

oh of course. thats where most of the discourse from me on this board originates from. a lot of people immediately throw logic and long-term sustainability of any decision to the wind so long as it immediately benefits individuals above all else. (health-care, union debates social programs in general etc..) while i will admit im rather cold-hearted.. its not that i want people to suffer, but i will always think things thro logically. if the numbers dont add up at the end, fuck your feel good 'the way it should be' ideas.

im not in a union, but ive worked for a construction company on the project management/supervision side

i cant speak for all unions, but when it comes to ironworkers, plumbers and carpenters, the quality of work is much higher with unions than non-unions

not sure about the other unions, but the ironworkers, plumbers and carpenters (even though they are all primadonnas) are worth the extra money because you have less rework

the union apprenticeship program is excellent and produces quality workers. the shitheads get fired real quick (especially in this economy, where the union halls are full of guys ready to come take their place)

hate all you want, but in construction, unions are worth the premium. they know how to meet a schedule and deliver quality (and save money in the long run)

I've always hated the "crossing the line" shit during union protests.

It's like, "yo mofukka, I still have bills to pay, just cause 1 faggot makes less than another you want me to turn down income and maybe get fired?"

    Fuck that.

I just built a site for a big union "local."
It pained me to do business with those types, but fuck it - I love money more than I hate them.
That shit is definitely built around the union politicians assraping the guys on the bottom who do all the work.
The president of this "local" makes over 400k+ a year, which is a pretty penny considering he is only top level of a single "local" which is a very, very small part of the union as a whole.
Where does all of that money come from, besides the union dues all of the smaller guys pay?
They negotiate contracts where motherfuckers that have been working the same job for 30 years are only making 16 bucks an hour.
Sure, there are probably great unions to work for, but I don't think they are as common as the corrupt ones.
The guys running the unions are definitely crooks.
I just feel bad for all of the guys who have dumped their lives into companies and barely get SHIT for it. These motherfuckers are unioned up repping that shit hard with hoodies and t-shirts and everything without realizing they have been getting fucked for 3 decades.

Unions are a GREAT idea in theory, and have been GREAT throughout history which nobody can deny. I definitely feel that they are obsolete going into 2010, though.

And if unions didn't keep labor artificially high making domestic manufacturing companies uncompetative on the global stage we might still see "made in usa" on a few more things but hey details

bump with this about how chicago is losing conventions to other cities over costs unions are unwilling to budge on.

this comment especially caught my eye from the article:
"Like all industries, jobs go where the unions aren't. Simple as that. Want to drive the local economy into the ground? Vote pro-union. Just ask Michigan."
"Americans like to believe in American exceptionalism, that the United States is a force for good around the world, not just another country pursuing its interests via geopolitical horse-trading. This is part of why there is such a visceral public backlash against WikiLeaks -- because it lays bare U.S. diplomacy in all its blunt, unromantic reality."

my faith in unions is gone. you don't work with them for 4 months? you get a re-entry free of 580$, corrupt pieces of shit. I just can't trust anyone anymore. you get newsletters from freepress about petitions for big corporation mergers you sign up for them then find out later the ones getting the petitions together are just as corrupt. nobody is about doing the right thing anymore, no matter it be the left or the right.

    I just want to move.
